Groundwater Vulnerability Mapping with DRASTIC

Risk zones mapped from 7 hydrogeological parameters

GIS & Remote SensingAug 2024–Feb 2025Kishore N

The problem

Groundwater contamination risk is spatially uneven and requires multiple hydrogeological factors to be considered together.

Our approach

We implemented the DRASTIC model using 7 hydrogeological parameters to produce contamination risk zones for Tirunelveli.

  1. Assemble the 7 hydrogeological parameter layers.
  2. Standardize and combine the layers through DRASTIC.
  3. Generate contamination risk zones.
  4. Lead a 3-member implementation team.

Results

  • Contamination risk zones mapped from 7 hydrogeological parameters.
