SAR–Optical Framework for Landslide Mapping

Rainfall-induced landslide detection in vegetated terrain

GIS & Remote SensingApr–Nov 2025Sathish

The problem

Vegetated terrain and rainfall make reliable landslide detection difficult when a single sensor is used alone.

Our approach

We combined Sentinel-1 coherence with Sentinel-2 optical data to detect rainfall-induced landslides in vegetated terrain.

  1. Prepare Sentinel-1 coherence data.
  2. Align Sentinel-2 optical observations.
  3. Combine the complementary signals.
  4. Evaluate the framework for rainfall-induced landslide detection.

Technology

Sentinel-1Sentinel-2SAR coherence

Results

  • A synergistic SAR–optical framework for landslide mapping.
